Arkisnak is a student-led graduate architecture newspaper published at the University of California, Berkeley. The lightweight paper aims to undo the existing boundaries between architecture pedagogy and the larger public and unfold alternative ways of belonging to shared space. The newspaper deterritorializes the discipline of architecture by celebrating professional practitioners, local makers, artisans, and students as those who investigate and create a shared built environment. Each issue is published quarterly, capturing the seasonality of California’s East Bay Area through journalistic and academic articles, opinion pieces, interviews, and more. It circulates free of charge amongst architecture and art spaces, targeting students, professionals, and an architecturally-curious public.

Isabelle de Metz is pursuing a master’s of architecture at UC Berkeley’s College of Environmental Design. She served as the coeditor-in-chief for Sediment, Issue 11 of Room One Thousand, the graduate architecture journal at
UC Berkeley. De Metz is originally from California’s East Bay Area, and currently works at Herzog & de Meuron in Basel, Switzerland.

Al Oliva is pursuing a master’s of architecture at UC Berkeley’s College of Environmental Design and a Certificate in New Media from Berkeley Center for New Media. Oliva is an experienced writer, educator, and cultural producer originally from Miami with a history working for arts organizations around the Washington, DC area. Oliva has served on the production teams for the Smithsonian Hirshhorn Museum, Baltimore Office of Promotion and the Arts, NY Art Book Fair, VOLTA Art Fair, among others.
