In collaboration with celebrated art historian and curator Hans Ulrich Obrist, the Institute of the 21st Century (i21c) fosters the growth of ideas and experiments within models of collaboration and interactive dialogue and, in the long-term, seeks to fill a unique niche in the world of 21^st-century art by promoting critical thought through audience development. This project makes it possible for Obrist to interview 91-year-old architect Anne Tyng in Sunnyvale, California in August 2011 as part of his Interview Project, which is dedicated to preserving the voices of the world's most important artists and thinkers, and of which i21c is the web archive.

Anne Tyng is an architect and professor. She was one of the first women to receive a fellowship from the Graham Foundation in 1965 to complete a manuscript entitled "Anatomy of Form." A pioneering architect in her own right, she is perhaps best known to a broader public for her close collaboration with architect Louis I. Kahn. Tyng was a professor at the University of Pennsylvania for twenty-seven years and is a Fellow of the American Institute of Architects, as well as an Academician of the National Academy of Design. In 2011, the exhibition Anne Tyng: Inhabiting Geometry was organized by Institute of Contemporary Art at the University of Pennsylvania and Penn's Architectural Archives.

Hans Ulrich Obrist is an art historian, curator, and critic. In 1993, he founded the Museum Robert Walser and began to run the Migrateurs program at the Musée d'Art Moderne de la Ville de Paris, where he served as a curator for contemporary art. In 1996 he co-curated Manifesta 1, the first edition of the roving European biennial of contemporary art, and in November 2009 ArtReview magazine ranked Obrist as first in the publication's annual list of the art world's one hundred most powerful people. That same year he was made an Honorary Fellow of the Royal Institute of British Architects (RIBA). Since 2006, Obrist has been Co-director of Exhibitions and Programmes and Director of International Projects at the Serpentine Gallery in London.
